The ISLAND - chapter 5
The guy in red tie asked me a few questions, a few polite things and presented me to the doc and her nurse. He told me not to scare about the next operation, that he already had used the machine many times.
"Now, you will be anonymous if you want to. But we recommend that you should be careful about your Real identity, at least during this week of Island Holiday.... If you speak about your RL ID..." (he really said R.L.I.D., those guys in big companies love acronyms)... "... we can't be responsible, you must understand..."
And again, I signed papers...
After a while, John-One -that was his name- went out of the room and let me "in good hands".
I was asked nicely by the nurse to go into a cabin and to change my clothes. My personal clothes would be kept in a locker here during my sojourn.
"We don't want you to use up your personal effects, because the Island is an extreme thing.... where, I add it again, you don't risk anything physically... It is impossible technically"
I put on some kind of uniform that looked like stylish pajamas. The color was silvery.
The assistant helped me climb in the horizontal tube. I had the feeling to walk in the cockpit of a reactor plane... except that I would lie down inside.
The smell of "cooked meal" came to my nostril, stronger. My heart beat really faster! What was I going to do, I wondered in a moment of fear? But I said to myself: "F... it, many people have already done it! Have bollocks!"
