Charging with lances polished, striking true

On they rode towards the looming legions

Without any single hesitation

The chargers rode towards the devastation

Hand-picked souls from all across the regions

Ready and willing and able to fight --

And that they did all through the day and night

The teeming hordes ridiculed and doubted

Our resolve. Yet there the masses routed --

Sent back into the depths in rank defeat

And when they returned to the camp for respite

The commander thanked me for my feat --

My defiance against the raging despot.

What heroic deeds have done?

They struck the killing blows -- I made none.

Why should I have glory to claim?

All I did was tend the flame.

Without them the day could not be won!

Of my deeds -- could they say the same?
