Back on topic, rooms could use some major revamps for sure, and still desperately need a more selective "Boot" button at the very least. I really like HughH's idea about setting up rooms for auto-accepting visitors, and a color-coding system at the front desk room display (White for available rooms, black for taken, green for open to guests) might work also, and I'd suggest short room descriptions (1 line, maybe 2) to show what room owners are looking for. Again, as HughH said, a profile link for the open rooms might help too.
